Food

In reviewing the Delaware Archives from the State of Delaware and other sources – the 1st Delaware Regiment was supplied with a variety of food and drink – here are some of them: Bacon, Barley, Beef, Bran, Bread, Chocolate – yes – it’s in the archives!, Coffee, Corn, Fish, Flour, Fruit, Hay (for horses, mules and cattle) – also used for bedding, Indian Meal or Corn Meal, Molasses, Oats, Oysters, Pork, Port, Rye, Rum, Salt, Sugar, Tea, Water, Whiskey, & Wine.

An interesting list.  Other items that were utilized were any apples, peaches, or any other orchard fruits/vegetables (including beans and berries) that were nearby and available for foraging.  Deer, rabbits, pigs, chickens, turkey, duck, goose, and other meats were also widely available at times.
